Whats the difference between marketing & Advertising? India
Whats the difference between marketing & Advertising?
In the context of Conventions the difference between the two would be:
Marketing
Marketing is the systematic planning, implementation and control of a group of activities intended to bring together players and convention organisers to ensure that a convention is successful. It is the look and feel of the convention not just the posters and brochures produced.
What works, What doesn’t & Why? How many conventions have developed formal marketing plans? Even if they do have a formal plan few conventions evaluate the effectiveness of the plan and use this evaluation.
Advertising
Advertising is the presentation or promotion by a convention of its products (card games, role-playing games etc) to its existing and potential attendees.

- knowing what the consumers WANT to buy and consume
- Making it available to the final consumer at teh right time, place and price.
Advertising is a subset of marketing. So, if the first step of marketing is to know WHAT teh consumers want, advertising is the step essential to let them know that 'HERE is the product YOU wanted".
